Chickens in crowns - breed Chubatye

This breed of chickens attracts attention, first of all, with its external data. Chickens with such dignity wear their tuft (barb) on their heads, as if they understand their exterior difference from other hens, as if this is their natural crown, as if they are not just chickens, but chickens of noble blood.

There is no detailed historical description of hens of Chubaty breed. Most likely, it historically originated and existed on the territory of Ukraine. And this is the correct version, since such hens can be found in any Ukrainian rural yard, they are not translated for decades and have become the unofficial symbol of Ukrainian poultry farming.

Judging by some creative works devoted to peasant life (fiction, visual arts), it can be concluded that this breed of chickens existed in Ukraine for a long time.

This breed of chickens prevails in the central regions of Ukraine. Less common in eastern and southern. In the Poltava region they are bred along with the Poltava region’s pride - the Poltava clay. The name of the breed received, thanks to its "business card" - a cup on the head.

Breed description Chubatye

Of course, Ukrainian crested is recognizable because of the characteristic tuft on the head. It is its decoration and characteristic feature. No functional loads, except for aesthetic, the pinion does not carry.

The roosters of this breed due to too lush forelock crest lost its usual position and slightly hangs to the side, without causing, however, particular inconvenience to the bird. In chickens, plumage on the head can not even be called a coat, as it is developed, has the shape of an oval and looks like a full-fledged lady's hairstyle.

The form of the comb in the cubed hens is leaf-shaped, the beak is strong, intended for pecking of roughage and large seeds (for example, corn). These chickens are wide-chested and wide-spined, their body is strong, with a well-developed tail part. The body is long.

The paws do not look too powerful, but the cubed hens cope well with them, carefully raking all the piles and heaps of interest to them. The color of foreblayers varies from light, so-called Colombian to dark fawn.

Features

Among the amateur poultry farmers, Ukrainian Chubar (they are also called that) are in great demand:

  1. First, for the decorative.
  2. Secondly, for belonging to the meat and egg type of poultry.
  3. The third feature that poultry farmers so appreciate is unpretentiousness.

This tempered hen is not very mild Ukrainian climate, relatively bravely withstands hard frosts and exhausting heat. What else can be added to the asset of this breed? The fact that chickens, having reached a certain age, become excellent chickens - patient and responsible.

There are no pronounced minuses in this breed of chickens, except that representatives of the Ukrainian Chubaty are not distinguished by obedience, as well as all other chickens. Unauthorized study of dangerous neighborhoods and periodic climbing in the garden can slightly spoil the perfect portrait of a crested chicken.

Content policy

There is nothing special in the content of hens of Ukrainian chubat (crested) breed. As we have already emphasized, these chickens are picky: they eat what they give, sit on that roost that the host is able to offer.

However, even the most unpretentious breed needs the cleanliness of a chicken coop, the presence of light in the room, ventilation in the summer, heat in the winter.

Feather feeders for cub chickens should be selected by age and type of feed.it is undesirable to throw grains on the ground, as amateur breeders in villages continue to do in the old manner. Chickens should have a place for feeding, which, firstly, to some extent disciplines the bird, and, secondly, allows you to more economically consume feed.

Drinking bowls for chickens are all craftsmen in their own way - and well, there are no special requirements for them, except for one: fresh water should always be present in the drinkers, because the chicken's body is designed so that it needs to drink twice the amount of food eaten during the day.

Oryol calico hens have a unique appearance. But beyond that, they still have many virtues.

And another important aspect of the content of crested chickens is the presence of ash and sand baths. In other words: provide the chickens with a place where they can have a good grab. This is not just a pleasure for chickens, but the most important cleansing procedure - the chicken cleans feathers with sand and ash, getting rid of parasites and other harmful microflora.

Analogs

The closest to Ukrainian crested hens "in spirit" and geographically two breeds from Ukrainian producers: Poltava clay and Ukrainian ushanka.

Like chubaty, these breeds are not very fastidious to the conditions of detention, tolerate the winter well, fur hat also have colorful feathers, carry the same, average size, eggs and in adulthood weigh the same 2-3 kilograms. The only thing that distinguishes the earflaps from the hochlatokes is the presence of peculiar "whiskers" above the ears.

Poltava clay from the previous breed groups differs in external features: a simple red plumage and a pinkish crest. Poltava hen does not have any decorative advantages over crested and fur hat.

The similarity of the Poltava breed in the earflaps and crested insects lies in the productivity of the egg-laying: 180 eggs per year, the mass of the eggs and the color of the shell. Adult Poltava hens do not exceed the size of chubarok and eared fly - the standard 2 kilograms of the hen and the standard 3 - of the rooster.

Very often, housewives (in Ukraine, women take responsibility for the breeding of livestock in the household) consider purchasing these breeds of chickens as identical and interchangeable. Bet on egg production and the rate of increase of the meat mass in the first place. Chubarok is purchased as a courtyard decoration. The instinct of brooding is inherent in all three breeds, so they are bred in the hope of replenishing the herd in the future.
