Russian ruble strengthened and delayed wheat exports

Experts of the analytical center "Sovekon" concluded that Russia may not fulfill the plan for the export of wheat in due time. According to operational reports of the center, as of January, wheat exports increased by 4.9% compared with the same period last year. Since the beginning of the current agricultural season in Russia, 16.28 million tons of wheat have been sold abroad. In order to prevent grain from displacing in the domestic market, exporters must sell at least another 12 million tons of wheat this year. According to experts, this task is very difficult to accomplish.

The key factors that will hold back export growth will be the competition of foreign sales, the strengthening of the ruble and high prices in the domestic market. By the way, Russian wheat losing its competitive advantageIn particular, in the Asian market, where it is already behind Australia and the US grain. But it is worth recalling that Russia gathered a record grain harvest of 119.1 million, including 73.3 million tons of wheat last year.
