After the procedure was discontinued due to the reorganization of the state registration system of planting material, certification of seeds in Ukraine will begin again by early March. This was stated by the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Kutovoy. "These 2 weeks are a transitional stage ... There was tension on the part of seed companies and farmers associated with this transition, but I believe that we are already removing it," he said. Taras Kutovoy added that due to the fact that the situation will become stable in the foreseeable future, there is no threat to the successful holding of spring field affairs in Ukraine. "I believe that everything will be fine with the sowing campaign."
Representatives of land associations previously reported that after the liquidation of the State Agricultural Inspection as part of the deregulation of the branch, the seed certification functions were transferred to the relevant ministry. The minagroprod, in turn, began the creation of the municipal enterprise "State Center for Certification and Examination of Agricultural Products." However, the subordinate laboratories and territorial branches of this company have not been created so far. Therefore, certification of seeds in Ukraine is not carried out. As it was reported, the certification of seeds in Ukraine is practically blocked due to the liquidation of the State Inspection under the reform of regulatory authorities. This reform foreseen the creation of the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection (State Support Service) on the basis of several departments, including the State Inspection.
Some representatives of land-related associations point out that due to the delay in certification of seed, farmers have a huge lack of seed for crops such as sunflower, corn, soybeans, etc.
