In the greenhouses of Tajikistan harvest young potatoes

Behbudi is a trade cooperative from the Kushonen region of the Republic of Tajikistan, where they first began to grow early potatoes in greenhouses. These days in the greenhouses of the enterprise is harvesting new potatoes. 160 tons of the crop have already arrived at retail outlets, EastFruit experts say.

The climatic conditions of Tajikistan make it possible to obtain large yields of root vegetables in closed ground. Farmers in the Kushonien district have been growing potatoes in greenhouses for three years now.

  • In December 2018, the local high-yielding variety Shukron was planted in closed ground. Not only potatoes but also lemons are grown in the greenhouses of the Kushonen district. Today in Behbudi there are 90 trees of lemons. In 2018, the yield of lemons was 2.6 tons, and this year, farmers expect to receive more than 3 tons. To use the entire useful area of ​​the greenhouse, tomatoes were planted with lemons, and cucumbers were planted near the potatoes.

    The trade cooperative "Behbudi" provided work for 35 people, and at harvest time another 100 people get the opportunity to earn. To process the harvest, farmers created a special enterprise. The farm cultivates onions, tomatoes, carrots, garlic, cucumbers and garden strawberries.
