What does the choice depend on?
The taste and benefits of beets known to mankind for a long time, so she repeatedly became the goal of selection and a variety of improvements, which led to the emergence of hundreds of its varieties. It is necessary to choose a variety depending on its own cultivation goals, whether it is for human consumption, sale or use as blanks, and the whole variety can be divided into 3 groups:
- Early varieties - the crop is harvested 75-100 days after planting. These varieties can tolerate frost well, but they are poorly stored for a long period, so they should be consumed immediately after harvest, but they do not have good taste.
- Medium early varieties - the harvest is collected in 110-120 days. I have frost resistance with early varieties, but tastes and presentation are much better preserved.
- Late varieties - ripen from 130 days or more. They tolerate frost well and can last for the longest periods.
Beets are also classified according to their use on:
- Aft - used for feeding livestock.
- Sugar - most often used to obtain beet sugar, at least - as feed for livestock or food for people.
- Dining room - used as food.
