Russian pig production increased by 9.4%

The Russian Ministry of Agriculture reports that in 2016, the production of pigs for slaughter in live weight for all categories increased by 9.4% compared with 2015. It seems that commercial breeders, unlike small private farmers, invest in production based on agricultural organizations. This investment was 12.9% more than in 2015. According to the government and agricultural policy, statistics indicate import substitution in response to self-imposed sanctions on food imports.

The situation is changing, so some of those pig producers who have invested in their business can now look less favorably on the relationship between Trump and Putin, which many believe will lift the sanctions in the near future. The average price for pigs in live weight in Russia in December was 95.32 rubles per kg (USD1.58 / GBP1.26 / EUR1.47).
