Description

The variety "Pilgrim" is easy to recognize, even among others, because their flowers are shaped like peonies, hence one of the names - peony.

As for the history of the appearance of this variety, it was a rather painstaking process. Over the breeding of this breeding variety for a long time worked in the company of David Austin ("David Austin Roses"). In this regard, these roses are often called "ostinkami."

Did you know? The name "The Pilgrim" was given a rose in honor of the pilgrims about whom Jeffrey Chaucer’s book "The Canterbury Tales" was written.
The variety was bred in 1991 by crossing the varieties "Graham Tomas" and "Yellow Button". Due to its unique characteristics, roses soon received many awards at various exhibitions of florists and breeders.

In color, such a garden beauty resembles a flame: the silky petals in the middle are painted yellow, and as they approach the edge they turn white in color - this feature gives the flower a certain radiance. Bud is composed of many petals that are gathered together in the form of a rosette. One flower can be folded from 100-150 petals.

The flowers are located on erect stems that are framed by brilliant glossy leaves of bright green color. "Pilgrim" blooms very copiously, in the smell reunited notes of myrrh and tea rose. If you grow a bush using a support, it can grow up to 3 meters.

This hybrid look has turned out quite hardy: its flowering lasts until the most frost, which is especially important - it repeats.

Landing

The main task of each grower who wants to have a rose garden from the park representatives in her own garden is to carefully study the “ostinok” preferences and choose the right place for their planting.

Find out what the rules of planting roses out of the box in the spring and autumn.
The best time to plant these roses is September or October. Experienced gardeners advise planting earlier, before the onset of the first frost, so that the plant has time to settle down and does not suffer from frost. Also, landing can be done in the spring.

Park roses feel great in any climate, so they have no special requirements for the temperature regime. But it is worth remembering that they prefer sunny places.

Priming

The most suitable soil for planting the variety "Pilgrim" is chernozem, but the plants will also feel good on loamy soil types.

Find out what types of soil exist, how to determine the acidity of the soil, how to deoxidize it, how to carry out drainage on the site.
Planting holes for seedlings of this class should be made quite large. The depth should be about 70 cm, and the width - 50 cm. This is done so that the root system of the plant feels free. This species does not like stagnant moisture, since this phenomenon can provoke plant diseases. In order to avoid this, you need to make good drainage of the planting fossa using sand and gravel. After the bottom of the hole to put a mixture of manure, humus, sand and peat. It is also important to select the area where groundwater is located at a depth of more than 1 meter.

The optimum soil acid for this garden princess is pH 6.0-6.5. If the acidity level is lower than the specified amount, a small amount of peat or manure is added to the soil; if it is above, ash is added.

It is important that seedlings before planting stood in the water. When moving them into the ground, it is necessary to ensure that the stock of the rootstock is deepened by 7-10 cm, since otherwise wild growth may occur. After placing the seedling in the hole, it needs to be watered abundantly, straightened the roots and fall asleep, first with the substrate and then with ordinary soil, creating a small mound around the stem of the plant.

Important! After planting, it is necessary to cut the stems, approximately to the level of 6-8 buds, and remove all the leaves.

Location

Park English rose loves the sun's rays, so the area for it is necessary to choose a well-lit. But it should be remembered that she prefers morning or evening sunlight - it is not recommended to plant the plants in the southern areas with a burning sun.

It is also important that the area has good air circulation. The flower does not like if it is planted in the lowlands, where cold air stagnation is observed, since this is fraught with frequent diseases for Pilgrim.

Your site can also be decorated with lush buds "William Morris", "Benjamin Britten", "Crocus Rose", "Augusta Louise", "Abraham Derby", "Mary Rose", "William Shakespeare".

Watering

The first days after planting the seedling must be watered very abundantly - about 5 liters of water per day for each plant. Subsequent watering, after the bush got accustomed, it is recommended to carry out when 2-3 cm of topsoil dry. This procedure should be regular, approximately once a week. Under each bush you need to pour 10-15 liters of water.

Top dressing

Experienced growers do not recommend feeding "The Piligrim" in the first year after planting. The first fertilizer should be carried out in the spring for the second year of the life of the plant in your garden. This dressing should contain nitrogenous substances, which contribute to the proper and qualitative development of the root system of the plant, as well as shoots. The mixture is prepared from 1 tbsp. l ammonium nitrate in 10 liters of water.

Important! If fertilization has fallen for a period of prolonged spring rains, the flowers must be re-fed after 12-14 days. You can use the same solution of ammonium nitrate or urea.
During the budding period, rose plants need nitrogen and phosphorus substances, which are needed for the buds to bloom slowly and have a beautiful rich color.

For the implementation of this feeding you can use calcium nitrate (1 tbsp. L. / 10 l of water). It will also be appropriate to make complex fertilizers. For such purposes, use the solution "Kemira", "Riga", "Crystal" in the proportions of 1 tbsp. l./10 l of water. It is also advisable to add a micronutrient tablet to the solution. In the summer of nitrogen fertilizers need to stop and go to the potassium and calcium. Approximately in the middle of summer, it is appropriate to introduce "Calimagnese" in the same proportions as the above preparations. After 12-15 days after that, the bushes should be fertilized with phosphorus and potash substances: this contributes to the maturation of the shoots, and thus the preparation of English park roses for winter begins slowly.

In the fall, Pilgrim is fed with solutions from double superphosphate (1 tablespoon per 10 liters of water) and potassium sulfate (the same proportions).

Mineral fertilizers must be accompanied by organic. That is, after each such feeding, an organic one should be carried out, for which solutions of fermented mullein (1:10), fermented chicken manure (1:20), albumin (1:10) are used.

On one bush of roses you need to use about 4-5 liters of liquid fertilizer. Prior to their introduction, the bush must be watered, after - to loosen the ground.

Care

Caring for a fiery garden princess is not only watering and feeding. It is also necessary to monitor the shape and health of the bush, to carry out timely pruning and preparation for winter. With properly organized care, this type of roses will thank you for its wonderful flowering, which is often used in landscape design. These plants are an excellent option for decorating your home rose garden, mixborder, designer flowerbeds.

  1. At the first stage, thin and weakened shoots and branches are removed.
  2. On the second start forming a bush. Three types of pruning are used: strong, weak and medium. This is done in order to prolong the flowering of the bush. Escape, clipped higher, will bloom faster.
Important! It is recommended to trim 1/3 of the length of the shoot so that the bush is wide and spreading. This is the average trim length.
After pruning necessarily need to make complex fertilizers.

Wintering

When the first frosts began, you need to tear off the remaining leaves from the bush and completely remove the unripe shoots.

It is necessary to cover this variety only after the temperature has steadily decreased and reaches the figure of -10 ° C.

Before you begin to cover, it is necessary to hilling the bush. After that, the bush is surrounded by mesh or foam panels, roofing felt or plywood. The cavity of the shelter should be filled with dry material (leaves, chips, sawdust, lapnik, crumbly dry humus). From above the bush is covered with a layer of roofing material or film.

In the spring, when the warming comes and the thermometer shows 0 ° C, the shelter must be removed.

Breeding method

In order to preserve the varietal characteristics of the rose "Pilgrim", it must be propagated by cuttings. Moreover, this method is the easiest and most affordable. The cuttings are carried out in June-July.

The best cuttings are obtained from semi-lignified shoots, which are 1 year old — and they can be both flowering and blind (not flowering).

The lower cut is made at an angle of 45 °, below the kidney, the upper cut should be straight, placed 0.5-0.7 cm above the kidney. The stalk may be 5–8 cm long and one interstitial. The bottom sheet must be removed so that the cutting is not exhausted, and the stem and half of the top sheet should be left.

The cuttings are placed in a moistened substrate of sod, foliage and sand (2: 1: 1), deepening the lower kidney by 1.5-2 cm with a slope of 45 °. It is important to observe the distance between them - 3-5 cm. Planted cuttings should be sprayed with water and covered with film.

It is necessary to ensure that the temperature in which the cuttings are located, fluctuated within + 22-25 ° С, and the air humidity was 80-90%. It is also important to protect them from direct sunlight. During the first two weeks, cuttings should be often sprayed, and when seedlings appear on them, the number of sprays reduces and increases the ventilation rate, which helps to accustom future plants to environmental conditions.

Rooted cuttings are placed to winter in the basement, and in the spring they are planted on the site for further germination.

Diseases

Growing roses "Pilgrim": reviews

Svetlana, great! But as always! (+). Here Jubili Celebration is one of those roses that I would definitely include in the list of necessary rosters, to which she has an interesting color. I even, in fact, bought it last year, but it has not yet entered into force, nothing to show. And I have a pilgrim for a long time, for the sake of justice I must say that it is very reliable, it never fails - the wide shrub is always in bloom, and even the second wave is normal. I have only 3 similar yellow eyes (well, in my opinion they look alike, and for some, maybe they are different), and of them Pilgrim is the most early and flowering.
