Sand acacia is a common desert plant. It can be attributed to the legume family, as it bears fruits in the form of beans and characteristic flowers.

The sand acacia has another name - ammodendron. The second and rarer - koyan-suek.

Description

At sand acacia very powerful root system. The roots are thick and long, not fragile.

In adult acacia, the approximate diameter of the roots can reach one meter.

The height of the trunk of an adult tree can be half a meter to seven and a half meters. The color of the trunk is brown. Its structure is rough, but its surface can hardly be called bark.

Flower color extraordinary - has a rich eggplant color. Flowers are collected in the inflorescences, having a pronounced kistoobrazny form. Such outlines are typical for most of the plants of the leguminous family. In size, they are relatively small, very fragile.
The middle of the flower is distinguished by a bright yellow tone. Buds begin to appear in early May. Flowers decorate about a couple of weeks.

The fruits of the tree are beans. In one bean is one or two seeds. Their shape is flat and spiral. The outlines resemble a propeller. Maturation occurs in mid-June.

In sand acacia pretty peculiar leaves. They are complex - each of them is a thorn, near which there are two narrow thin leaves. They are in the middle of its length. Leaf color - light green. They have a soft silver edge. After the leaves fall, the thorn remains bare.

The stem of the plant is brown and thin. The structure is slightly rough. At maturity the plant goes down.

Places of growth

The main areas of growth - steppes and deserts. Since it is able to live for a long time without moisture under the scorching sun, a dry warm climate is suitable conditions for it.

Homeland tree is difficult to call. Now growing in Central Asia, in the northwestern region of China, Kazakhstan and Iran.

All these countries are only the main places of growth. The plant is unpretentious, so it can be grown in other parts of the world, not counting those where the climate is too humid or cold.

Common species

In total there are about seven species. Of these, only four are most known and common:

Two-leaved. A type of sand acacia that best matches its standard description. One of the most common. The barrel has a medium or large length.
Conolly. Virtually no different from the previous form. It may have a slightly smaller length and inflorescences are relatively small in size.
Eichwald The smallest in size view. More like a tree, not a bush. Stems raised high. The leaves have the most pronounced silver edge. From a distance, it seems that the plant has the color of wormwood (silver-turquoise).
Karelina. The leaves of this species are very bright and green. Silver edge on them barely noticeable. Leaflets have a smoother structure than other species. Can reach maximum sizes. The flowers on the inflorescence are located close to each other.

Application

Since on one shrub can be located about sixty thousand flowers, it gives a lot of nectar. Those who are engaged in beekeeping, try to spread the bees near this plant. Honey obtained from such nectar practically odorless. Its shade is amber. The taste is very pleasant.

The entire root system has a powerful coloring property. Colour, which is obtained by the interaction of the dye with the painted surface - ocher (brown-yellow). Most often, that natural dye is used in order to give shade to woven fabrics and light wool.

The trunk of the tree is good fuel. It dries very quickly and burns well.

Wood is also well treated. From it is easy to create durable products. Purified barrel to be painted.

The tree has a decorative function - it is used in Central Asia to fix the sands.
